Richard Whitaker has spent over 35 years in the architectural industry and over that time has built up extensive experience of various building types and sectors.

Richard was trained at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff, where he gained BSc (Hons) in Architectural Science followed by the higher degree of B Arch. He was enrolled on the register of Architects (ARB) in 1984.

Throughout his career, Richard has worked in the private sector starting within small & medium sized practices which formed a solid grounding in design, technical and procedural knowledge. Senior positions followed in some of the largest multi-disciplinary construction consultancies in the UK. He has worked on many complex and prestigious projects varying in size from small domestic extensions to international airport terminals. Many of these projects received major architectural awards.

As Richard ascended the ladder of management structure, he began to yearn for the more “hands on” approach to creating buildings, which ultimately led to his setting up of "Richard Whitaker Architects".
